WILLIAM CAREY SUZUKI INSTITUTE
POLICY LETTER – PARENT RESPONSIBILITIES

Practice:
Practice at home is essential for learning to play any instrument. Parents
need to help, encourage, and remind daily. Keep the practice time “special.” Find the
good points first, Isolate the trouble spots, and work on them one point at the time.

Siblings:
Siblings are welcome only if they can entertain themselves quietly.
Sometimes, they may also participate in the lesson.

Recitals:
Everyone is expected to play at least in one group or solo concert a semester.

Attendance:
Attend all group lessons, recitals and special activities.
The more you put into an endeavor, the more you will get out of it.

The lesson:
Be prompt. Be sure to understand the focus of the lesson.
Don’t be afraid to ask questions during the lesson and do not wait until the lesson is over.
The teacher really appreciates your questions.

Musical environment:
A good musical environment is the best help you can give yourself
and the student. Try to attend as many concerts as possible.
Listen to as many good recordings as you can.

Problems:
Difficulties and problems do occur. Some times the teacher is aware of such
problems and some times they are not. Please keep the teacher informed when you
think that there may be a problem.

Cancellation:
It is expected that a student beginning study in the fall will continue his study
throughout the school year. In the event of lesson termination, notice should be
given a month in advance.

Missing:
A 24 hours notice is necessary to not be billed for lessons. If it is possible for the
teacher to make it up, he/she will, otherwise you will be billed for the lesson.

Love and respect your teacher:
He or she is very special and needs your love and
support all of the time. The parent who nurtures the teacher
will get more nurturing for their child. Teachers are humans, too.
